Formed in 1998, King Solomon is known as the standard for Reggae music in the region. Their infectious blend of Roots Reggae and Dancehall has been described as a soulful vibe with a powerhouse punch to the heart. Since it’s conception, the band has developed an incredible following while headlining major festivals such as Summerfest (Milw), Riversplash (Milw), Trempealeau Reggae Sunsplash (Lacrosse Area), Rockford (IL) on the Water front, and the Ya Maka My Weekend Reggae Festival (Rock Island, IL) to name a few. This talented group of musicians have opened for such artist as The Wailers, Steel Pulse, Burning Spear, Maxi Priest, Culture, Yellow man, Third World and Matisyahu to name a few. Along with the major festivals King Solomon has headlined, the band has also released several CDs.
As a mainstay on the Southeastern Wisconsin music scene for over a dozen years, King Solomon has managed to create a reggae music subculture that has raised consciousness and awareness to reggae music, at least in the Milwaukee area. DJs, singers, musicians, and music lovers in the area have all embraced reggae music. The band can’t take all the credit for Milwaukee’s thriving reggae music scene, but with a decade of shows in the area and a reputation that is second to none, their musical influence and impact speaks for itself. What was once a quiet and dormant reggae music scene is now thriving and alive with popular Caribbean cultured events, Reggae music beach festivals, and Reggae music flavored events. One would be hard pressed to find another band in the region with this much impact and credentials.
In 2009 King Solomon welcomed the return of their original front JD Rankin. Hailing from Ochos Rios Jamaica, JD brings to King Solomon the authenticity and electric charisma that completes this veteran line up.
